Operation Brosef: Episode One The Phantom Menace

The journey began in the deserts of Saudi Arabia against the might of Real Madrid. There was a smoothness to the beginning an ease on this world class of difficulties. Lining up in a 4-3-3 with Rooney as the false 9, Depay was found out on the right in place of the injured Juan Mata with Tony Marshall (Martial) on the left. It took but an explosion of pace for Depay to be away and brought down cruelly inside the box by an unnamed Real Madrid defender. Rooney smashed home the penalty and the season was away!

It was not to last less then 10 minutes later Bastian of the Swine was shown a red card for a lunging sliding tackle and we were down to 10 men but not out. Approaching half time and holding our single goal lead Smalling was battling off the attacker, he brought him down with a shirt tug and we were down to 9 men incredibly.

In this moment real change was needed so on came the lumbering Felliani to see us through the rest of the game. He was simply amazing completing 4 tackles in a row as we approached full time, unfortunately Gareth of the Bale popped up from a crazy angle to make it a draw 1-1.

The second pre season game saw much rotation with Smalling & Bastian sitting in the stands, Valencia and Rojo on international duty the squad was quite limited for the visit of Bayern Munich. Thomas Muller was smiling in the pre match photo and we quickly found out why with a deep cross from Frank Ribery buried on the volley from the German.

Rooney managed to pull one back in the second half as he drove away from the centre half on the right hand side of the box and smashed it past the keeper. Unfortunately as the game went on Bayern dragged us apart and scored late in the game to take the victory 2-1.

Juventus was next and we were all but out of the pre season competition at the group stage. Taking a 1-0 lead with a Felliani rocket (yes you heard right) we battled to hold onto the lead. Making quite a few changes and switching to a 4-1-2-1-2 we passed a lot against the 3-5-2 but struggled to create anything meaningful. Unfortunately Juventus snagged a late goal to make it 1-1 to break our pre season hearts.

The money was in the bank all 2.2 million of it as we headed into the first game of the season, a home match against the scum of Tottenham Hotspur. In their traditional 4-2-3-1 they lined up with Harry Kane quite isolated and going to the wings a lot during play. Unfortunately Eriksen didn’t have his shooting boots on missing a sitter from 8 yards before having a host of other shooting opportunities.

The false 4-3-3 was getting bossed against the 4-2-3-1 as Spurs sat deep and decided to control the ball. A deep cross from the right dealt by De Gea was ruled to be a foul on Eriksen by Damo as he went for a header. Eriksen never winning a header in his life was gifted a penalty and Harry Kane stepped up.

‘Dom’ was handed the gloves as Harry Kane stepped up, a little step to his right as Kane was about to rush in. A moment of suspense as the ball drifted to the left and straight into the keepers hands. Expert goalkeeping from ‘Dom’ had saved the undeserving penalty kick.

Filled with renewed vigour after the delicious penalty save I was on the attack with Wayne Rooney as we pressed Spurs. They were keeping the ball expertly but Rooney managed to get a long shot deflected away for a corner.

Depay was standing over the ball and a run to the front post was called. The ball was sent in driven but with too much power as it floated towards the keeper. Darmian ‘Damo’ got to the ball just ahead of the keeper and headed it into the back of the net. We went wild as we ensured a winning start to the season in the 90th minute! The title is on I scream as many a high five is given, operation brosef is on the road.

After such a buzz we had to keep going. Next up was Aston Villa away at Villa Park. It was a battle with a fully freshened team the same line up was taken into the match with Felliani, Schneiderlin & Schwini in the midfield three. Doubts were placed over Bastian as Mata is about to return from injury. And didn’t he bury those doubts. After a tussle of a game with a few chances either way he picks up the ball in the left hand channel just outside the box. He drives the ball across the keeper a real high quality finish to open the scoring.

Villa crumbled and two goals were scored quickly through Depay & Rooney the subs were called with Ashley Young and Valencia coming on for Martial & Depay. Valencia managed to tuck one away after some good work from Rooney.

Two games, two wins its a nice spot to be. Newcastle is the next game on the agenda with a Carling Cup tie against Burnley. The season has started well but things are going to get tough with congestion this United side is lacking that quality in depth.

Unfortunately the boffin controlling the twitch account didn’t save the ‘archive recording’ tick box. Therefore there is no video footage of the double red cards, penalty save and late win or the trashing of Villa.

These things were expected and its why we are going with a ‘soft’ launch to get the technical difficulties out of the way. We are also working on getting mics. The banter during play was of a high quality and will really add to the stream.
